T-Cell Characterization Scientist

T-Cypher Bio is an early-stage, innovative biotechnology company aiming to unlock an expansive target space to build a pipeline of novel, T-cell receptor (TCR)-based therapeutics. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in cell and molecular biology to advance our platform development as part of the TCR engineering team.

What you will do

The primary focus of this role will be to execute experiments relating to the screening & characterization of TCRs in both cell and soluble formats. The ideal candidate should have hands on experience in TCR characterization and engineering, with knowledge of how to screen for high affinity binders showing good developability properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess TCRs with improved affinity and developability properties
  • Screen TCRs in cell based assays
  • Express and screen TCR proteins with improved properties using directed evolution methods, display technology systems and flow cytometry
  • Design and execute campaigns for generation, expansion, and characterization of engineered cell lines to support research and development pipelines
  • Conduct routine quality control testing to ensure genetic and phenotypic stability of generated cell lines
  • Implement FACS-based enrichment strategies and functional selection assays for cell population refinement.
  • Collaborate in designing, developing, and refining novel cell-based immunoassays to address complex scientific questions.
  • Influence group and project meetings, offering scientific insights and expertise to advance research projects
  • Prioritisation of personal workloads and coordination of scientific work streams and processes
  • Analyse and record experimental result and communicate findings to the team and to management
  • Maintain and implement good laboratory practices, including accurate laboratory notebook systems, instrument and reagent maintenance, and personnel safety precautions

To be successful you will need

  • A PhD in cancer biology, molecular biology or immunology, or related field
  • At least 1 year of relevant industrial or post-doc experience, ideally with a focus on TCR-therapeutic development
  • Extensive hands-on experience working with immune cell related assays such as cell culture, co-culture killing assays, immunoassays and FACS sorting
  • Knowledge of display technologies such as yeast, phage or mammalian cell display.
  • Knowledge of biochemical techniques for the characterization and affinity measurement of proteins e.g. SEC, HPLC, CD, DLS, DSF, SPR & Octet BLI
  • To be creative and skilled in applying critical thinking to troubleshoot challenges and adapt protocols for improved outcomes.
  • Analysing & presenting results in a concise and accurate manner to a wider, multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of the TCR-therapeutic landscape is desirable
  • Ability to adapt to multiple roles in a matrixed, fast-paced and evolving company
  • Enjoy working towards challenging goals in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to follow and write protocols and SOPs
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
