We are realising this through the development of the Osler Origin – a 'portable lab' capable of performing a wide range of testing, with lab-quality performance, in a portable, rapid, low-cost, and easy-to-use manner. The Osler Origin will offer a wide portfolio of diagnostic tests and serve all major healthcare settings, globally.
The Osler Origin is powered by a portfolio of novel techniques and approaches for sample addition, microfluidic sample preparation, and electrochemical biosensing, and Osler was formed out of the University of Oxford in 2017, following decades of research.
Having recently completed an $85m Series C fundraise, we are now entering a growth phase, where we are scaling our team as we take the Osler Origin product through regulatory activities, and towards market launch.

Role Overview
This role focuses on taking the design & development of mechanical components from concept to production. The candidate will also support design verification activities for the Osler system, including testing and documentation. Full training will be provided to assist with workshop operations as the role will also provide support for the in-house creation of prototypes, jigs and fixtures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype and develop mechanical components and assemblies into production.
- Develop and refine jigs and fixtures for project needs
- Support design verification through structured testing and documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity
- Participate in workshop activities with hands-on training

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Skills and experience:
- Product Development: Solid understanding of how to design, develop, engineer and implement components into an internal or external production environment.
- Manufacturing & Design Experience: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material selection, and proficiency in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks and PDM.
- Verification & Validation: Familiarity with engineering verification and validation methodologies, including their application in product development cycles.
- Technical Drawing Proficiency: Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for accurate and compliant technical drawings.
- Quality & Compliance Awareness: Interest in developing personal practices aligned with Good Documentation Practice (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Industry Experience: Prior experience ideally within regulated sectors such as diagnostics or medical devices demonstrating an understanding of requirements-driven engineering. Osler will also welcome applications from recent graduates who can demonstrate suitable experience.
