At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started.

Our Senior Cryogenics Engineers are the guardians of our hardware’s heartbeat, ensuring the extreme thermal stability required to keep our global fleet of quantum computers performing at their peak.

If you’re driven to push the absolute boundaries of R&D and engineer the breakthroughs that will redefine human computation, then you belong here.

The Role

As we move from lab-scale prototypes to a deployed fleet, the mission shifts from "making it work" to "making it world-class."

You are being hired to solve the challenge of operational baseline stability.

You will be the technical authority for our Dilution Refrigerator fleet, moving beyond reactive fixes to a proactive, data-driven maintenance and improvement strategy.

You will bridge the gap between high-level science requirements and industrial-grade reliability.

By defining what "optimal" looks like and implementing condition-based monitoring, you ensure that our Science and Innovation teams have a rock-solid platform to run the experiments that change the world.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Standardise: Define and implement the "OQC Standard" for cryogenic setups across the entire fleet, including wiring and components. Please note this role does not have any direct responsibility for our QPU packages.
  • Monitor: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and condition-based monitoring processes to predict and prevent system downtime.
  • Optimise: Identify and execute incremental performance improvements for the existing fleet in collaboration with the Lab team.
  • Interface: Act as the primary technical point of contact with fridge suppliers, influencing future system purchase specifications.
  • Solve: Provide Level 2 technical problem-solving for the cryo-platform, diagnosing anomalies that baffle standard protocols.
  • Consult: Partner with Science and Innovation teams to investigate operational deviations and refine system performance.

What We’re Looking For

We value strong fundamentals, technical curiosity, and a passion for challenging problems.

Core Experience:

  • Cryogenic Expertise: Proven experience in the use, design, or maintenance of Dilution Refrigerators.
  • Systems Engineering: Strong background in machine/equipment maintenance and build-out within laboratory or industrial settings.
  • Strategic Maintenance: Mastery of preventative maintenance techniques and structured problem-solving.
  • Operational Logic: A highly logical approach to diagnosing complex, multi-variable hardware issues.
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical anomalies into actionable insights for cross-functional teams.
  • Academic Qualifications: A degree in Production, Manufacturing, Design Engineering, or a related technical field.

The "Nice to Haves":

  • Experience in the Quantum Computing sector.
  • Proven ability in team coordination or technical leadership.
  • Experience managing external high-tech vendor relationships.

Why Join OQC?

You will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
