Director of IT
OQC
Director of IT
As OQC continues to grow at pace, we require a Director of IT who can sustain business momentum while strengthening the systems and foundations that support it. This role will align IT initiatives with company objectives and milestones, scale both the team and infrastructure, and introduce appropriate governance, processes, and security capabilities to meet sovereign-state requirements.
At OQC, we’re building quantum computing technology that’s moving fast from breakthrough engineering into real-world delivery and we’re looking for a Director of IT who’s done it before! You’ll bring experience building a hybrid in-house and outsourced IT function, hiring and leading a high-performing team, and owning the full IT estate including support and helpdesk, networking, information security, and vendor management. You’ll have shaped IT strategy in a technically demanding environment with expert users, and strengthened resilience through disaster recovery and business continuity planning, while thriving in a fast-paced, multi-site global organisation. We’re especially keen to hear from you if you have been supporting systems across time zones, working in a start-up, or partnering with third-party MSPs but this isn’t essential.
Reporting directly to Darko Stojkovic , Chief Operations Office , you will:
- Turn business goals into a clear IT roadmap, partnering with the C-suite to align priorities, budgets, and funding milestones into an executable plan.
- Led a high-performing IT function, including headcount planning, hiring exceptional talent, and shaping a team that thrives in a fast-moving environment.
- Run IT day-to-day operations with confidence, owning the support/helpdesk function, IT operations, and service delivery to ensure productivity remains high and downtime is minimised.
- Scale infrastructure in line with company growth, ensuring systems, tools, and networks perform reliably as Directorcount, data, and demand increase.
- Introduce pragmatic processes, governance, and policies that bring consistency, efficiency, and resilience without slowing the business down.
- Take a rigorous approach to security by driving an information security roadmap that supports ISO27001/SOC2 and delivers sovereign-state-level protection.
- Strengthen risk management and resilience through robust disaster recovery, business continuity, and secure data practices.
- Identify and eliminate waste by auditing tools and software usage, retiring outdated or underutilised systems, and improving cost control without compromising outcomes.
- Manage vendors and partners with confidence, owning supplier relationships, enforcing SLAs, and changing providers where performance falls short.
- Deliver with clarity and accountability by running projects to plan, communicating progress early, escalating risks promptly, and keeping teams aligned across sites.
At OQC, we’re scaling quantum computing from breakthrough engineering into dependable, real-world capability. This means IT has to be secure, resilient, and built for growth from day one. In this Director of IT role, you’ll combine strong leadership skills with hands-on capability across networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs), Windows/Linux estate management and Active Directory, modern server and cloud infrastructure, and a service mindset that makes internal teams feel supported, not slowed down.
You’ll bring the discipline to implement and maintain ISO27001/SOC2-aligned security frameworks, drive practical cybersecurity controls, and keep us compliant (including GDPR) through robust asset management and governance. You’ll also be comfortable owning budgets, strengthening disaster recovery and backup strategies. We need someone who embraces emerging technologies including automation, AI and machine learning, to improve quality, speed, and resilience. If you’ve also implemented ITIL, can spot opportunities through business process analysis, and deliver change using modern project principles like Agile and DevOps, you’ll stand out -because in a fast-paced, multi-site environment like ours - the best IT leaders plan well, solve problems quickly, take initiative, and raise the bar every day.
If you’re excited by the challenge of building secure, scalable IT in a fast-moving, technically demanding environment - and want to make a visible impact on a company shaping the future of quantum computing - this could be the role for you.
