The Role

As a Backend Engineer, youll build the secure, scalable systems that power Kneus products. Youll work on services and infrastructure that clinicians rely on for decision-making, enable patients to access impactful tools day to day, and support data science workflows that unlock new insights for research and care.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Build and maintain backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable
  • Design and develop REST APIs for mobile and/or web applications
  • Contribute to distributed systems and microservice architectures
  • Support database design (SQL) and backend architecture decisions
  • Improve release processes and deployment workflows
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and data teams to deliver high-quality outcomes

Requirements

  • 2+ years backend engineering commercial experience
  • 1+ year commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with microservices and distributed systems
  • Solid understanding of SQL databases, backend architecture, and release processes
  • Interest in growing DevOps capability (e.g., Terraform, CI/CD, AWS deployments)
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK

Nice to Have (Bonus)

  • Experience with Python (scripting, automation, data workflows, lightweight services)
  • Interest in expanding into adjacent areas over time (e.g., collaborating with mobile engineers, potential exposure to Android/iOS)

Benefits

Salary:£60,000 per year

Annual leave:25 days paid annual leave + public holidays, with the option to buy and sell holidays
