Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our initial growth phase, we are looking for a Verification Specialist to join the team. You will be responsible for driving the verification strategy of our Electric Propulsion Units, providing insights into the electro-mechanical system performance throughout the full product life cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the electric propulsion unit verification strategy bridging the gap between simulation and validation teams

  • Develop methods to characterise and commission the mechanical performance of components/sub-systems/full electric propulsion unit throughout the build life cycle

  • Work with the mechanical and electromagnetics simulation teams to develop and implement a unified multi-physics workflow

  • Implement source characterisation techniques to quantify internal and external force excitations (mechanical, electromagnetic, aerodynamic)

  • Work with the mechanical-design team to review rotor designs (dynamics/bearing schemes/seals etc.) and drive best practises through the creation of user-guides/low fidelity tools/training etc.

  • Mentor engineers within the capability improvement team and support with the next generation facilities expansion ensuring critical requirements are met

  • Lead sensor integration/scoping and data analysis strategy to enable condition monitoring and predictive maintenance across all of our systems

  • Support mechanical failure investigations championing a structured and data driven approach to make clear conclusions to drive changes to improve product safety/reliable

  • Liaise with external partners (ATI, consultancies, universities etc.) to establish collaboration projects and strong working relationships

  • Maintain a proactive approach to personal and team health and safety, reporting observations and incidents per company HS&E and Product Safety policies.

Skills and experience required

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or equivalent. PhD in relevant field could be advantageous

  • Extensive knowledge of electric propulsion systems covering motors, controllers, batteries and associated sub-systems, with proven track record of delivering concepts to production.

  • Deep understanding of rotating machinery holding a role of SME in at least one of the following topics: bearing schemes, rotor dynamics and/or balancing strategies

  • Strong grasp of mechanical engineering with the ability to apply core principles to solve problems efficiently using low fidelity tools

  • Appreciation for cross-discipline interactions covering electromagnetics, control, thermodynamics and aerodynamics.

  • Ability to conduct multi-physics simulations (ANSYS, others considered) to evaluate component stresses, vibration responses and thermal analysis

  • Proven ability of conducting high quality experimentation to validate simulations (from sub-component to full system) using a range of sensors and signal processing (MATLAB) techniques.

  • Strong understanding of statistical methods (Gauge R & R, DoE etc.) to guide sensitivity studies

  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis in a structured way to identify fail modes and guide design changes with the full system performance in mind

  • Self-starter requiring minimal guidance.

  • Adaptability in fast-paced environments with ability to think outside the box

  • Strong collaboration across teams

  • Ability to present concise updates internally and externally at all levels (Graduate to C-Suite)

  • Ability to produce high quality documentation for internal and external bodies

  • Willingness to travel both within UK and abroad.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of setting up DAQs (LabView, VeriStand, MATLAB).

  • Hands-on skillset to build and commission rigs using a range of tools

  • Advanced signal processing skills in the field of real time condition monitoring

  • Experience implementing multi-physics simulations on eMotors.
