By accelerating the adoption of electric propulsion, we will help revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free electric air transportation.

To support our journey and rapid growth we are looking for a Hardware Engineer to join us. Reporting to our Hardware Team Lead, you will provide support across projects and teams to design, implement, test and document hardware used in our range of revolutionary compact and lightweight motor controllers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop and validate electronics hardware for use in inverter and converter products used in aerospace applications
  • Design of electronic hardware (including PCBs) for motor control units (MCUs)
  • Simulation of electrical and thermal models and evaluation of results
  • Perform circuit analysis including component lifetime, limits and derating
  • Lead and contribute to design reviews
  • Contribute to the justification of designs’ compliance with requirements including the functional safety case, EMC technical files
  • Perform and support testing and validation of hardware designs
  • Interface with manufacturing, suppliers, sub-contractors, and customers.

Skills and experience required:

  • Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering with proven experience in an electronic design role, preferably for aerospace applications and electric motor drives
  • Previous experience designing analogue and discrete digital circuits, DC-DC power supply, interfacing to microcontrollers, communications (CAN, RS485, Arinc 429)
  • Experience of circuit simulation, tolerance analysis, component de-rating, stress analysis and DFMEA
  • Experienced in PCB layout design, review and understanding design rules
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Previous experience using ECAD design tools, such as Altium Designer, SIMetrix Spice simulator, MATLAB, or similar
  • Previous experience of design for EMC and EMC testing for compliance
  • Interfacing with customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors
  • Knowledge and experience of applicable aerospace standards, such as:
    • D0-254 and AMC 20-152A desirable
    • IEC 62239-1 (ECMP)
    • IPC standards (including IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC-D-279, IPC-CM-770E)
  • Willingness to travel as required.
